My career began as a part-time position as a therapist while obtaining my undergraduate degree. I immediately knew I would continue to work with children and adults with developmental disabilities for the rest of my life.

After college I left the field for a couple of years before returning to work full-time and obtain my master’s degree in education. In 2009, I opened and operated the Monterey Bay division of TBH through 2012. In 2010, I began the coursework to become a board certified behavior analyst, becoming certified in 2013.

I continue to serve in the role as Regional Director at TBH for the Central California and Bay Area divisions.

Education

M.Ed in Education, University of Phoenix, 2009

Philosophy of Care

The best part about working in this field is spending my day with great team members from whom I learn something new everyday, and amazing consumers who make every moment
memorable and enjoyable.
My professional experience comprises field experience and training which has afforded me the opportunity to hone my skills in an applied setting and develop a unique perspective on how to partner with families to develop a service that is valued and effective.

I began working with children with developmental disabilities in college, where I was an one on one ABA therapist in preschool and home settings. This is when my passion for teaching children with developmental disabilities was sparked. The smallest gains were the biggest accomplishments in my eyes. Each child and family presented a new learning opportunity and I fell in love with being able to make a difference. I pursued my Board Certification as an Associate Behavior Analyst in the following years and went on to graduate school to receive my Early Childhood Special Education Credential and Masters at San Francisco State University. I have worked in a variety of settings as a behavior analyst and a special education preschool teacher in San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

Education

M.A. in Early Childhood Special Education, San Francisco State University, 2011
BCaBA in Behavior Analysis, Fitchburg State University, 2009

Philosophy of Care

I have always been drawn to working with children and knew I wanted to go into a field that helped children in need. Through my first exposure in college of ABA therapy, I knew it was the career path for me. I became intrigued by the complexities of developmental disabilities, especially autism spectrum disorders and became compelled to further advance my knowledge of ABA to provide evidence based interventions.

It thrills me to see gains made by applying reinforcement, shaping, and task analysis procedures to skills such as language acquisition, play skills, self- help, and social skills. Not only teaching children with developmental disabilities but teaching care givers how to implement ABA to improve areas of concern fascinates me. This field combines many areas of expertise and I love being able to be a child and play while running programs, a teacher while assessing, creating, and supervising programs, a clinician when looking at behaviors of concern, all while practicing family centered services as a behavior analyst.

The volunteer internship at a pediatric out-patient clinic in my hometown in Germany, inspired me to become an Occupational Therapist, when I was a teenager. During my university program and after my graduation I had the chance to gather valuable experience in working with clients in prevocational programs as well as in geriatric and mental health settings. However, I discovered that working with children is the most rewarding experience for me. Over the past years, I had the opportunity to assist children (with neurological, cognitive and behavioral disorders) in developing their skills to become successful in their natural environment.

I always had a love of languages and working with children. After studying French in Boston and Paris, I started looking for a career that incorporated language and learning with helping people. I worked for two years as a one-on-one ABA instructor at a school for children with autism in Santa Cruz, California. I then obtained my Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as certification as a Behavior Analyst. I have been working for Trumpet in Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties since 2012.

Education

BCBA in , University of North Texas, 2012
M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology, San Jose State University, 2012
B.A. in French, Tufts University, 2007

Philosophy of Care

I chose to dual specialize in speech-language pathology and ABA because of the effects that autism has on communication. Often maladaptive behaviors occur because the individual doesn’t have the communicative skills to request wants or needs. My role as a behavioral speech-language pathologist is to teach communication – whether it be through vocal mands, a picture-based system, or signs – while alleviating some of the frustration that arises for parents and children. I have a unique set of skills among SLPs, enabling me to use ABA terminology and methodology in collaboration with a behavioral services team.
